Earlier this year, The Coach maintained its Michelin star, so we went to see what all the fuss was about.

The Tom Kerridge pub is located in the heart of Marlow’s town centre and gives off a relaxed pub atmosphere with food that is deserving of the highest esteem.

We sat at the bar top as I ordered a pint of Rebellion whilst Sky Sports played Premier League highlights on the screens around.

However, it would be far too easy to go on to label this as a regular pub that shows the football.

The Coach serves some of the best small seasonal British plates and it is clear to see how it earned its Michelin star.

New head chef Sarah Hayward has arrived from Kerridge’s Manchester restaurant The Bull & Bear in Manchester’s Stock Exchange Hotel after previously working at The Coach in 2017. Bucks Free Press: Head chef Sarah HaywardHead chef Sarah Hayward

Kerridge labelled Sarah an “incredible chef” and someone that he “trusts implicitly” on her return to Marlow and it was clear to see why.

We tried the lunch package that is part of Kerridge’s ‘Gastronomic Getaway’ which sees guests dine at each of his three restaurants in the town; The Hand & Flowers, The Coach, and The Butcher’s Tap & Grill.

With eight plates to choose from this is what we opted for.

First up was the ‘Mushroom Risotto Claude Bosi’, a homage to the chef who invented the celery risotto without rice.

The risotto made from the king oyster mushroom was in a creamy rich sauce and was a big highlight of the afternoon.

Next was the ‘Ham Hock, Pistachio and Smoked Chicken Terrine’ with piccalilli which went perfectly with the toasted sourdough.

The next plate was the ‘Char Grilled Hispi Cabbage’ with parsley aioli and crispy onions.

The cabbage was noticeably fresh and it was a nice light plate that tasted amazing on each bite.

We had to go for the famous ‘The Coach Burger’ which came with raclette, pulled pork, and dill pickle.

This was the other highlight of the lunch.

Don’t be deceived by the stacked ‘slider’ burger that tastes as good as it looks.

Each part of the burger was prepared, cooked, and delivered perfectly and it’s one I will desperately want to try again.

The next plate was the pub’s renamed ‘Chicken Kyiv’ which is supporting those affected by the ongoing crisis in Ukraine with all the profits donated to the British Red Cross.

If you needed another reason to try the all-time classic then this is a worthy one.

Finally was the ‘Fish Fritter of the Day’ with tartar sauce and pease pudding.

The fish was cooked to be light and fluffy whilst encased in a delicious batter that went hand in hand with chips that came with a pot of béarnaise sauce.

When we found room For dessert we tried the ‘Chocolate and Coconut Choux Bun’ and a tasty ‘Vanilla Panna Cotta with Gariguette Strawberries’ topped with honeycomb and caramel shortbread.

Bucks Free Press:

The choux bun had a rich chocolate middle and arrived with a pot of pineapple toffee sauce that was duly drizzled onto it.

It was exactly what you would want a dessert to be.

Overall, to put it simply The Coach is a certain must-try place.
