“Enquiries into the allegations are ongoing and being investigated thoroughly.

“As this is a live investigation, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.

The investigation comes around a year after the election took place, on May 6 last year.

A Bucks Council spokesperson said: "Detailed evidence regarding the conduct of the original count in May 2021 and the results of the court-ordered recount have been provided to the High Court and considered at a hearing on 6 May.

"The Court dismissed the legal challenge to the election by way of an Election Petition and made clear that there was no criticism of the Returning Officer, or the conduct of the election.

"Complaints to the Police were made prior to the commencement of the Election Petition and the Returning Officer has made all the necessary evidence available to assist them.  Their investigations are continuing."
