A High Wycombe school that was rated as requiring improvement by Ofsted inspectors is now officially good after their latest visit.

Oakridge School was given a disappointing rating back in May 2018, but has managed to turn things around, with their latest report saying they are officially a good school.

The Oakridge Road school, which has 431 pupils, was rated good in all areas, except early years provision - which was rated outstanding.

School head teacher Stuart Cook is thrilled with the result, which is the culmination of years of hard work and determination.

He said: "This excellent report reflects the hard work everyone has put in over the last four years and demonstrates the significant progress the school has made.

"We kept our focus on improving the education for our children despite unprecedented times during the pandemic.

"This really has been a team effort, but particular praise must go to the amazing children we have at the school."

Ofsted inspectors visited the school in March and praised pupils, saying they are "proud" of their school, enjoy learning, love reading, are well-behaved and play well during breaks and are focused during lessons.

They also said the staff have high expectation of pupils and have designed a curriculum that is "challenging and caters for the needs of all pupils".

They were also praised for being "ambitious" when supporting pupils with special educational needs or disabilities.

The "outstanding" early years provision "gets children off to the best possible start" and staff help youngsters learn through "warm, caring and purposeful interactions".

Mr Cook added: "We were particularly pleased that the team recognised our ‘outstanding’ nursery and reception provision and reflects our determination to give children the best possible start to their school life.

"If children get off to an excellent start with secure foundations, this will be a secure platform for them to be successful throughout their academic life.

"However, despite this success, we will continue to strive to give the best education to our children."
