PLANS for a new Aldi and McDonald’s that were due to be discussed this week have been postponed – again.

A “significant technical problem” forced Bucks Council to put off deliberation on a new discount supermarket and fast-food restaurant off Crest Road in High Wycombe, at a planning meeting, on Wednesday (May 25).

After a twenty-minute delay, Marlow ward Councillor Neil Marshall chimed in to tell the public the council was unable to present the plans because the system had “completely crashed”, despite working two hours earlier.

This is not the first time deliberation on the scheme has been postponed. In April, Bucks Council withdrew the plans from a meeting agenda after late public responses forced “further consideration”.

Cllr Marshall said the application would not be considered again until June 7.

Aldi Stores Limited seek construction of a 1,801 sqm Aldi supermarket and a 517 sqm McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru at the former Park and Ride site, with a new access from Crest Road and 126 parking spaces.

A new pedestrian crossing on John Hall Way is also planned.

The plans were first revealed by the former Wycombe District Council in March 2019.

Cllr Marshall: “I’m afraid we do have a significant technical problem. The system was checked and working two hours ago but has subsequently completely crashed. We are unable to present plans on anything. So, it leaves us with no choice but to defer – and it looks like the earliest date that we can do would be June 7. My sincere apologies.”
