A petition has been launched following the heartbreaking death of a beloved pet dog who was killed by an e-scooter rider in High Wycombe.

Sue Reynolds, 72, was walking her 14-year-old dachshund Jumbo in Duke Street when the rider on a black scooter drove through the dog lead.

Jumbo was sent flying into the air before landing on the road, where he "faded away" and died on May 12.

The incident has provoked shock and outrage, and is being investigated by Zipp Mobility, the company that works in conjunction with Buckinghamshire Council on the e-scooter trial in the county.

Now, a petition has been set up to ban e-scooters from all pedestrian spaces.

According to Zipp Mobility rules, riders should not be taking e-scooters onto footpaths or pavements and should only be ridden on the road or within cycle lanes - but some riders have been witnessed flouting the rules.

Devastated at the news of Jumbo's death, Mandy Baldwin has called for more to be done to stop riders taking e-scooters onto pavements.

She wrote: "For Jumbo's life to end in this way is heartbreaking - and more tragedies will occur while powered vehicles are allowed to dominate pedestrian walk-ways, robbing people of the healthy benefits and freedom of simply being able to walk safely in their town.

"Children, the elderly, blind and disabled, those walking dogs, those carrying shopping and unable to run to safety, will all be in danger.

"E-scooters are silent, but violent, rented out to people who are too lazy to walk short distances or cycle, and unwilling to use public transport, which e-scooter users see as environmentally unfriendly."

Buckinghamshire Council does not comment on active petitions.

So far, 32 people have signed Mandy's petition. Signing, Tracey McKeever wrote: "They are a danger on the pavements, we must be safe to walk our own streets. So sorry for the loss of your dear pet Jumbo."

Zipp Mobility encourages anyone who has witnessed someone misusing an e-scooter or not following the correct rules to report it to info@zippmobility.com.

The tragic death of Jumbo comes just days before a police investigation was launched when a man was seen riding down Totteridge Road in High Wycombe with a newborn baby strapped to him on May 16

Zipp Mobility said the man would be banned from using an e-scooter again.
