A bus driver from High Wycombe went out of his way to help a passenger, who forgot his vital medication to the bus.

Carousel Buses driver Paul Harris has been hailed a hero after going beyond his usual work duties to reunite a passenger with his insulin, often used to manage diabetes.

After completing his late shift on the 107 Chalfont Common to Slough service, Mr Harris spotted a passenger had left their insulin on-board while he conducted his final check of the vehicle.

The medication included the owner’s name and address.

Realising how important it was, Mr Harris personally delivered it to their home first thing the following morning.

Simon Kelly, the passenger from Chalfont St Peter, said: “I have to say that this is probably one of the most wonderful and totally unexpected acts of humanity, I have ever experienced.

"I never, for one second, would have expected that anyone would have bothered to take the time to do such a thing.”

“I foolishly left my insulin on the seat next to me.

“As I had used my last dose I had been anxious all evening and morning, trying to organise a replacement and I would have had to wait quite some time, in order for the doctor’s surgery to fulfil the prescription.

“As I work from home, in the mornings, I heard a knock on the door this morning and lo and behold, it is Paul, the driver, who had taken his own personal time to drive around to my house to return the insulin.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul for his initiative, professionalism and kindness.”

Mr Kelly wrote to the company to thank the quick-thinking driver, who was given a ‘Star of the Month’ award. The company award is based on customer commendations, and the recipient receives a certificate and monetary vouchers.

Mr Harris: “It was the least I could do and all part of the service. I knew the insulin was important and so simply got it back to our passenger as swiftly as I could.

"We take pride in looking after our customers and being part of the community.”

Luke Marion, Carousel Buses interim managing director, commented the heroic act: “Mr Harris went above and beyond the call of duty and is a wonderful example of the care our team have for the people we serve.

"Mr Harris fully deserves our Star of the Month award and we thank Mr Kelly for taking the time to write in to us.”
