There will be special celebrations this weekend as High Wycombe marks Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 25.

The town centre will be hosting a celebration event on the High Street between 11am and 4pm.

There will be entertainment throughout the day, including a live duo of singing military sweethearts - The Polka Dots – and a vintage pop-up tearoom styled by the town’s very own ‘Air Raid Café and Tearooms’, with amazing war-time props and refreshments.

Visitors will be getting in the blitz spirit with rousing sing-a-longs, plus a giant colour-in military heroes wall will celebrate all our loved ones from the Army, Navy and Air Force.

The Royal British Legion will be fundraising for the military charity, plus there will be demonstrations and exhibits from the local Army and Sea cadet groups, including the Royal British Legion Riders with their impressive motorbikes and leathers, plus a military vehicle display arranged by local enthusiast groups.

Hosted alongside Saturday’s busy market, the one-day celebration event from 11am – 4pm will be packed with family-friendly activity, live musical performances, stilt-walking, face painting, a gourmet food market and more.

The event is being organised by HWBidCo, chief cheerleaders for High Wycombe town centre. Chief Executive Melanie Williams said: “It’s an honour to celebrate all those who have served our country in this way, encouraging a sense of pride in the younger generations, and we’re delighted that so many local military organisations will be joining us for the event.

"The ‘Air Raid Café’ in The Chilterns Centre is an amazing destination café too, and we’re excited to bring this out into the open for all the enjoy.

"It’s just the start of a summer of fun, with regular events taking place throughout the coming months, and it’s a great feeling to be able to welcome increasingly more visitors to the town after the last 12 months.”
