An award-winning artist has teamed up with a Beaconsfield pub to showcase his work across the eatery.

Paul Bell, who won the BBC’s inaugural Big Painting Challenge and is from Buckinghamshire, will see some of his creations on display at the Greyhound in Beaconsfield.

As part of the venue’s ongoing work to support local businesses, Mr Bell’s artwork, which has been exhibited at the Tate Britain, will be displayed in the restaurant’s recently renovated upstairs dining room for diners to enjoy.

Bell, 58, who is based in Beaconsfield, switches between oil and watercolour in his work - which spans from detailed architectural watercolours to large abstract expressionist paintings.

A former student of the Glasgow School of Art, his often-large paintings are inspired by the abstract expressionist movement of 1940s and 50s New York, as well as the Scottish colourists.

The collection at the Greyhound is a mixture of local and international landscapes as well as still life and figurative paintings.

Margriet Vandezande-Crump, owner of The Greyhound, said: “It’s such an honour for us to be displaying Paul’s award-winning artworks at the restaurant, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the relaunch of our upstairs dining space than by using it to show off the talents of a local, Beaconsfield-based artist.”

Mr Bell then added: “Having been a Beaconsfield local for more than 10 years and a regular at the Greyhound since it opened, it’s a fantastic opportunity to have my artwork on permanent display.

“Daniel and Margriet have given me carte blanche in terms of what work I display which is incredibly liberating.

“There so many parallels between food and art, and both can take inspiration from one another, which is why this makes this very special for me.”

The Greyhound has been ranked among the top 100 restaurants in the UK by both OpenTable and SquareMeal, is one of the UK’s top 100 gastropubs, and is listed in the Michelin Guide.
