A High Wycombe police officer has been accused of using excessive force after pulling over a suspected drink driver.

Former PC Lewis Kent, who was based at High Wycombe police station, is set to face the allegations against him at a misconduct hearing next week.

The ex-officer faces three allegations all relating to an incident on June 18, 2021.

Former PC Kent has since resigned from the force.

It is alleged that on the date of the incident, former PC Kent used unnecessary, disproportionate and unreasonable force when he arrested a man in Southall for drink driving and assaulting his partner.

In respect of use of force, former PC Kent is accused of breaching the standards of professional behaviour.

Former PC Kent is accused of failing to act with self-control and tolerance, breaching the standards of professional behaviour relating to authority, respect and courtesy.

It is also alleged that former PC Kent's conduct at the scene was so severe that it would discredit the police service or undermine public confidence in it.

The misconduct hearing will take place at Thames Valley Police Headquarters in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, on Wednesday 13 July.

The hearing will be presided over by legally qualified chairperson Harry Ireland.
