A busy road that melted in the extreme temperatures the county suffered this week is set to be repaired overnight tomorrow - but there is a warning to drive slower or avoid it completely until then.

The tarmac on the A4010 Bradenham Road, which has thousands of vehicles travelling along it every day between Princes Risborough and West Wycombe, has melted in the sun, prompting a warning for drivers to be careful.

Transport for Bucks has been "dusting" the road with stone in a bid to soak up the melted tar, but a proper fix is expected overnight on Thursday, July 21.

In the meantime, Buckinghamshire Council has urged drivers to go slower on the road - or avoid it completely if possible - because it could be dangerous.

They said: "The A4010 Bradenham Road has been badly affected by the extreme temperatures and requires emergency repair work.

"This work is being planned to take place overnight on Thursday 21st July when traffic volume is at it’s lowest and a temporary diversion route will be put in place.

"In the meantime, please avoid this road if you can, or at least reduce your speed limit if you do need to use it. Also remember that this road surface may become slippery if wet."

When temperatures break 30C for a prolonged period, roads are at risk of starting to melt.

Gritter lorries can be used to spread light dustings of crushed stone instead of the salt they use during the colder months to reduce the chances of road surfaces melting.

The crushed stone reportedly soaks up excess tar and helps reflect a larger amount of the sun’s rays.
