A popular village pub has been shortlisted as one of the best country pubs in the Great British Pub Awards.

The Old Queen's Head in Penn has been named a finalist in the 'Best Country/Rural Pub' category of the 2022 awards.

Wycombe MP Steve Baker sent his congratulations to the Hammersley Lane pub, saying: "Best of luck in the finals on October 4. Proud of the thriving pub industry in Wycombe."

The Old Queen's Head is a dog and child-friendly country pub and offers a delicious menu of classic dishes like Sunday roasts, sausage and mash with onion gravy, beef burger, chickpea curry and slow braised pork collar with jasmine rice and Asian slaw.

It was reportedly a favourite of baking queen Mary Berry when she lived in the village and has rave reviews from locals.

"Frankly the best local pub one could wish for, amazing friendly staff all full of beans and always smiling, couldn’t do more to make your stay more welcome," one person wrote.

Another said: "It has become my go to even if its just for a drink."

The Old Queen's Head has been shortlisted among a stellar list of pubs from across Britain - but is the only one in Buckinghamshire to have made the list.

The team said of their shortlist: "Proud to be one of six finalists for the Best Country/Rural Pub. Hoping to bring back the crown on the 4th October!"
