A piece of unexploded World War Two ordnance that was discovered yesterday has been safely detonated.

The incendiary was uncovered in a property in Ingram Avenue, Aylesbury, at around 1.25pm on Monday, prompting a large police response.

The street is home to a number of businesses, residential homes and two schools - Bedgrove Juniors and Begrove Infants.

Working together with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) yesterday, officers moved the device to nearby Bedgrove Park, where a controlled explosion was carried out at around 6.05pm.

The park and surrounding area have since been deemed safe by officers.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “We received a report of a historic World War Two incendiary discovered at a property in Ingram Avenue, Aylesbury, at around 1.25pm yesterday

“No evacuation was necessary and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team carried out a controlled explosion on the item in Bedgrove Park at around 6.05pm.”
