A large fire in a Bucks town was seen flaming from miles away last night.

Fire crews were called to the scene of a field fire in Fullers Hill, Chesham, on Tuesday August 2 around midnight.

To get the situation under control, six fire appliances and crew tackled the blaze, which burned an area of grass stubble measuring around 400 meters by 100 meters patch.

For scale, one Boeing 747 airplane is around 70 meters long.

Chesham residents posted sightings of the fire on OurChesham Facebook group, and some had called the emergency services.

In Amersham, residents reported hearing the fire crews leave the station.

One resident encouraged “all those planning barbeques this summer always keep buckets [of] water or hoses on standby and help keep us and countryside safe this summer.”

Bucks Fire and Rescue Service said: “Appliances came from Amersham, High Wycombe and Beaconsfield and included a 4×4 from Royal Berkshire.”

The blaze was tackled using four hose reel jets, water back packs, beaters and a 4x4 vehicle.

Later at 3am on August 3, a crew from Amersham reinspected the area using a thermal imaging camera, but no hot spots were found.
