An NHS worker who crashed his car into a roundabout after a night of drinking has been banned from the road.

Marvin Ntwatwa, aged 29, of Cromwell Road in High Wycombe, was over the legal limit when he lost control at the junction of the A41 and Aston Clinton Road on July 24.

At a hearing at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court today (Monday), the Vauxhall Astra driver pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving.

The court heard how on July 23, Ntwatwa and a group of friends drove from High Wycombe to Reading town centre, where he enjoyed chicken and chips and drank “three to four” pints of Heineken beer.

The next morning, at around 6am, Ntwatwa lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a roundabout on the A41.

Police found the 29-year-old inside the vehicle. The court heard how he was immediately apologetic and said he felt “tired” immediately before the crash.

After he was helped out of the vehicle, Ntwatwa failed a breathalyser test, giving a reading of 57 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

The court heard how Ntwatwa, who works as a service manager as part of the NHS vaccination programme, told police that he “wanted to apologise” for what he had done when he was later interviewed.

In mitigation, the court heard how Ntwatwa had no previous history of offending and that he felt strong remorse for what had happened.

The justices were also told that no one was injured in the incident. Ntwatwa accepted that he had made a “serious error.”

After hearing the evidence, the magistrates banned Ntwatwa from the road for 16 months.

He was also fined £553 and ordered to pay £306 in costs.
