A man who was caught with a military-style "Rambo" knife on the streets of Buckinghamshire has avoided going to prison.

Oluwadamilare Aremu, 18, of Burnmoor Close in Bletchley, has been sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work after he was sentenced for knife possession on Thursday.

On July 6, Aremu was the front passenger of a vehicle in Serpentine Court, Bletchley.

When police carried out a stop and search on the teenager, officers discovered the military-style blade tucked into his waistband.

Aremu was arrested and later charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place. He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Aremu was sentenced at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court.

Investigating officer PC Mark Pugsley, based at Milton Keynes police station, said: “As a result of Operation Deter, we have secured a swift conviction and sentence of Aremu, who admitted being in possession of a knife.

“Due to our swift actions, we managed to take this knife off the streets and put Aremu before the courts within a day of the offence, for which he has now been sentenced.

“Aremu will have to conduct 200 hours of unpaid work as a result of his decision to carry this knife, and hopefully he will realise the consequences of his actions has led to a criminal conviction.

“Operation Deter will continue to target those seeking to carry knives in our communities.

“It is not acceptable behaviour in any circumstances, and you are more likely to become a victim of knife crime yourself if you choose to carry a knife.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to take these knives off the streets, making our communities safer and put offenders before the courts.”
