TRAINS were forced to stop on the Chiltern line tracks after a fire on the railway embankment.

The blaze on August 11 at 9.47am put a stop to morning commuters’ journey on Beaconsfield’s Penn Road A474 as firefighters put out the flames near the train station.

One appliance and crew from Beaconsfield fire station and one from High Wycombe were on the scene.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “An area of around 10 metres by 20 metres of railway embankment was on fire.

“Trains were temporarily stopped in both directions while the firefighters worked at the scene.”

They used one hose reel.

The fire follows a string of fires across Buckinghamshire during days of hot and dry weather, predicted to continue until early next week by the Met Office.
