The Amersham branch of HSBC is set to close next week following the bank’s decision to scale back local services.

Following the banking giant HSBC’s announcement in March, its Amersham branch on Sycamore Road will close its doors for good next week.

Once the branch shuts on August 23, the nearest HSBC location from Amersham offering customers counter services will be more than 6 miles away in Marlow.

Jackie Uhi, Head of HSBC UK’s Branch Network, said: “The way people bank is changing - something the pandemic has accelerated. Our branches continue to support people with their more complex banking needs, but the way we can do this has also evolved, with the addition of banking hubs, community pop ups and continued use of the Post Office network.”

The Sycamore Road closure comes after the Beaconsfield branch shut on August 4 – another of 69 HSBC branches axed across the country this year as majority of HSBC customers preferred to do their banking online, HSBC claimed.

The branch in High Wycombe continues to be open as ‘Digital Service Branch’ – meaning there is no service counter, but staff will be on hand to help customers so they can complete transactions using the self-service and digital channels.

Chesham and Amersham MP Sarah Green met with the Amersham branch manager recently to “discuss what support is in place for customers” after the doors shut next week.
