The residents’ views are wanted on the fate of a Buckinghamshire village road used for rat running.

A Buckinghamshire Council consultation comes after Aston Clinton residents and the Parish Council raised concerns about rat running for shortcuts and high speeds in the area along London Road.

Launched yesterday, the scheme consultation looks to introduce traffic calming measures along London to target drivers’ speeds, reduce rat running and improve pedestrian safety through measures such as time limited parking and double yellow lines.

Buckinghamshire Council said on the consultation website: “The Aston Clinton bypass was opened in 2003 and the initial impact on the village was positive.

“More recently, with a number of new and planned developments in the area, the increased volume and speed of traffic within the village has made the issues worse.”

While the option of no new traffic calming measures is also on the table, it would mean loss of the already secured funding, and the village traffic calming wouldn’t be in line with the Aston Clinton Neighbourhood Plan, Bucks Council said.

The proposed scheme includes two raised tables with an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing, four pairs of speed cushions between two junctions on London Road, time limited parking of 30 minutes outside the Aston Clinton shop and post office road, use of print coloured street surfacing on two locations, relocating and installing a new bust stop to safer location, and double yellow lines on London Road and extending into Church Lane and Twitchell Lane.

The consultation closes on September 16 2022 and can be found here.
