Did you know that in 1962:
l On July 12 the Rolling Stones made their debut at London’s Marquee Club.
l On July 13 Prime Minister Harold Macmillan fired 7 members of his cabinet, followed by 9 junior ministers the following day - funny how history repeats itself.
l On July 20 the world’s first hovercraft passenger service was introduced. It was the 20 mile run between Rhyl in Wales and Wallasey in England.
l On August 5 Graham Hill won the German Grand Prix.
l On August 15 The Beatles recruited drummer Ringo Starr, who then made his first live appearance on August 18 at a Horticultural Society dance near Liverpool.
We now take a look at pictures that show what was happening in Wycombe in July and August in the 1950s and 60s.

Centre right: The then new location for Wycombe Museum at Castle Hill House, off Priory Rd, was formally opened, July 1962.
Above: Here we see the children of Downley School assembled for their Speech Day, July 1968.
Left: Work to build the Octagon Centre was well under way, here we see pile-driving in progress at the rear of the Murrays department store, July 1967.
