A popular 300-year-old hotel and pub has reopened after it closed its doors earlier this year.

In April, The George and Dragon Hotel and Pub in West Wycombe High Street closed down as the hotel's owner and head chef Arnaud Stevens moved on.

The announcement of the closure left pub-goers from near and far upset, with one regular saying it was "absolutely horrible news".

The Grade II listed pub was then listed for a sale leasehold in May.

It has now reopened under new owners and will continue to be a popular spot for tourists visiting historic the West Wycombe.

A social media post after the opening night on August 12 said: "Safe to say last night the atmosphere in here was electric….. who’s coming out to play tonight?"

The historic pub, which also has a barn for weddings and a popular beer garden, reached its 300th birthday in 2020.

Part of the hotel and pub's new website said: "Explore the charming village, lined with pretty cottages, artisanal shops and a traditional tea room, before taking a stroll to West Wycombe Hill for breathtaking views over the surrounding Chiltern countryside.

"The 18th-century Italianate villa of West Wycombe park and home to the Dashwood family for over 300 years, is set in 45 acres of landscaped parklands.

"The Palladian house is known for its cameo roles in Downton Abbey and other screen classics.

"Other delights in the village include traditional churches, a mausoleum and the renowned Hellfire Caves."

The pub is open Monday to Thursday from 12pm to 11pm, Friday to Saturday from 12pm to 1am and Sunday from 12pm to 10pm.

Food service is currently running daily from 12pm until 5pm daily until the pub fully opens its kitchen.
