An initiative to help feed struggling families has been launched.
Charity FoodCycle are using surplus food to generate a weekly three-course vegetarian meal to residents in Aylesbury.
The free meals helps to reduce food poverty and food waste at the same time.Steve Bowles, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “This is a fantastic initiative that I’m proud we’re able to support.
“Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy a warm, tasty, free meal at 6pm every Tuesday at Aylesbury Vineyard."
Buckinghamshire Council has supported and funded the scheme through a Household Support Fund Grant received from the Department for Work and Pensions.
FoodCyle will be located at the foodbank in Aylesbury Vineyard.
Emily Macauley Wilcox, FoodCycle’s South East Regional Manager, added: "FoodCycle Aylesbury launched on July 26th, and it was a huge success! We fed 17 happy guests a free, hearty 4-course meal of soup, pasta bake, crumble and fruit smoothies, and heard some really moving stories of how much these new community meals will make a difference in their lives. Our fabulous volunteer team did an amazing job and all really enjoyed themselves!
“If you'd like to get involved, we still need plenty more hands on deck every Tuesday evening! You can sign up here. A big thank you for all the support so far.”
