A SOUTH Bucks man has scooped an award at one of the film industry's most prestigious ceremonies.

Trevor Wood, from Hedgerley, picked up an Oscar on Sunday night for his work on Hollywood blockbuster, The Golden Compass.

Mr Wood was in LA to accept the Oscar for visual effects. He and three others, Michael Fink, Bill Westenhofer and Ben Morris were recognised for their work on the film, which was released last December.

The Golden Compass starred Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig and is based on the first book in the "His Dark Materials" trilogy written by Philip Pullman.
