Buckinghamshire Council has responded after a former bar in Marlow was damaged in an accident with a skip lorry.

On Tuesday (August 23), the site of Clayton's Bar was damaged after a skip lorry collided with the front of the building.

The council received a report about the "dangerous structure" and confirmed "immediate action" was taken.

Bucks Free Press:

This included closing the footpath, and putting up a temporary structure to provide support as well as protective fencing around the impacted area to keep people safe.

Clayton's Bar had been at 16 Oxford Street for 11 years before shutting its door for the final time in May.

Peter Strachan, cabinet member for planning and gegeneration, said: “Following an incident earlier this week, our Building Control service received a report about a dangerous structure on Oxford Road that was caused by a vehicle impact.

"I can confirm that a Senior Building Control Surveyor responded and immediate action was taken by the building owner and their contractors.

"The footpath has now been closed, a temporary structure has been arranged to provide support, and protective fencing has been set up around the impacted area to keep people safe.

"We hope that everyone will practice caution around the area whilst the work is being completed to make the building safe and want to thank residents for their patience when travelling in the area.”

Marlow Town Council confirmed that the building isn't being pulled down or demolished and said the incident is a "private matter".

Hazell and Jefferies Ltd, the skip lorry pictured, were contacted for a comment and said that the incident has been handed over to their insurance.

No further comment was made from the company.
