Advertising banners across Marlow High Street will stop being sold due to cost pressures.

Marlow Town Council will cease to offer banners in Spittal Street and the High Street from November.

Council documents revealed that the fee for erecting a banner is paid directly to the contractor and that the town council runs the service at a loss.

Council members also discussed whether the service could be outsourced or if prices could be significantly increased but both ideas were dismissed.

Documents also deemed the banners to "detract from the appearance of a smart town centre" whilst also being not recyclable or sustainable.

It also said: "The council does offer other advertising to local organisations through the Marlovian magazine and the town noticeboards."

Banners are currently erected using ladders and ropes, but council officials have researched into a ratchet system.

This would allow banners to be installed from ground level but would cost in the region
of £6,000 per street to install.

The fixings would be significantly larger than the current eyebolts used and would require the freeholders of the building to give permission for it to be installed.
