A golf club in Beaconsfield will celebrate its 100th anniversary this month.

The Beaconsfield Artisan Golf Club, which is based in Seer Green, will host a day commemorating their achievement on Saturday, September 10, which will see members both past and present attend.

The sport will be played on top of numerous other activities, which will include a live band in the evening.

David Gibson, who joined the club in 2001 as an 11-year-old and has remained since, told the Free Press: “My dad got me involved and he’s been there since the 70s and he is still a member.

“We love to play with a smile on our faces, and the atmosphere at the club is very friendly and relaxed.

For that, we have to thank our parent club, whose members and staff have always shown us much goodwill, consideration, and co-operation, especially in helping to mark this landmark celebration.”

The difference between an artisan golf club to our main golf club is that the former is deemed to be a lot more ‘casual’.

However, in recent years, artisan golf clubs have dwindled with three in the county closing in the past decade.

One of them was in Flackwell Heath, and this has come down to the niche element not being as popular as it once was.

But, with the club in Beaconsfield being alive and vibrant as ever, David hopes the anniversary celebrations on September 10 will be a great success.

He continued: “It really is a dying, artisan golf clubs.

“But luckily, we have got a really good relationship with our main club who really do support and back us, and they’re really excited about celebrating the event with us this year.

“They have given us their main facilities to use for the whole day and it’s going to be great.

“On the day, there will be catering, a live band after our meal, we have sponsorships, a prize giving, and we had a charity raffle on the 100th day of the 100th year which was back in April.

“People gave some really good prizes as they gave away their holiday villas to be used, and we raised £7,000 just on tickets which were £10 each.”

“We’re really excited.”
