BUCKS politicians have paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, who tragically passed away at the age of 96.

Like the rest of the country in this moment of sadness, Bucks councillors and MPs honoured the Queen’s deep sense of duty and her resilience.

High Wycombe MP Steve Baker led the tributes, who said Her Majesty was “unwavering in her dedication, selflessness, and duty to the people of the UK and wider Commonwealth nations during her reign”.

Beaconsfield MP Joy Morrissey said: “As a sailor might navigate by finding the north star so, for the last 70 years, has the world cast its gaze, in times of joy and crisis, to Queen Elizabeth II for a bright and consistent light in the firmament.

“The loss we feel as a nation at the dying of that light is shared by many across the Commonwealth and throughout the world. Her Majesty represented the very best of us in her devotion to duty, her love of country and her desire to reach out to people across the world.

“We will miss her, and we will celebrate her life, her achievements, and her incredible influence over nearly three quarters of a century.”

She also welcomed Charles III as the new King, ending with “God Save The King”.

Meanwhile, Chesham and Amersham MP Sarah Green said “most of us cannot remember a time without her as our Head of State”. Aylesbury MP Rob Butler said the love and affection for Her Majesty were “vivid” during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which celebrated her 70 year claim to the throne.

Cllr Dev Dhillon, chairman of Buckinghamshire Council, said: “Her Majesty’s reign witnessed many milestones in the history of this country and the Commonwealth and more changes in the way we live our lives than any previous reign. We express gratitude for Her Majesty’s life of dedication and service to the British people.”
