Marlow Carnival has cancelled its event this year following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The nation has entered a period of mourning following the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

The sad news was confirmed on Thursday (September 8) evening after members of the royal family travelled to Balmoral, where the Queen was laying in rest.

As the nation mourns the Queen a number of events have been cancelled.

A Marlow Carnival social media post said: "The Marlow Carnival Committee is mourning the loss of Her Majesty the Queen and we send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family.

"As a voluntary organisation, and in light of the period of national mourning we feel it is not appropriate to continue as planned and we have therefore decided that the carnival will not go ahead on September 17.

"We want the carnival to be a fun event for the whole community and we are looking at the best course of action on how to proceed and a decision will be made over the course of the next few days, so please bear with us as we work through the logistics of everything."
