Wycombe MP Steve Baker writes: The death of Her Majesty the Queen has touched our hearts right across the country and the world.

The Queen was unwavering in her dedication, selflessness and duty to the people of the UK and wider Commonwealth throughout her long reign.

Her Majesty was a reliable and reassuring constant throughout all of our lives as she worked hard to play her part in maintaining our institutions and building a better future.

Each of us will grieve the loss of Her Majesty in our own way.

For my part, I am now required to do my duty as Minister of State for Northern Ireland.

It has been a sudden and unexpected honour to represent the Government at events in Northern Ireland, including the 96-gun salute and the Proclamation.

On Tuesday I met the new King and Queen Consort when they visited Belfast.

Their Majesties viewed an exhibition in Hillsborough Castle on the late Queen’s long association with the area.

After hosting Her Majesty at a reception, I joined The King, the Prime Minister, the President of Ireland, the Taoiseach and others at St Anne’s Cathedral for a service of reflection. We were joined by Stormont party leaders and representatives from all the major Christian denominations.

I have a long-standing interest, and friendships, in Northern Ireland so I am delighted to have this opportunity to help promote peace, security and prosperity.

My duties will require frequent travel to Belfast for official engagements but I will be principally based in Westminster, so I will continue to attend local events and represent the interests of Wycombe in Government.

My constituency office will be open in the West Wycombe Road and my staff are always happy to discuss any issues which constituents wish to bring to my attention.

Finally, we will all want to wish His Majesty King Charles III long life, strength and happiness as he takes up his duties.

God save the King.
