DJ MADCAP from Chinnor beat stiff competition (about 600 entries to be precise from all over the world) in the Movement Drum & Bass/Jungle sound DJ Competition on Friday night.
The 22-year-old whose real name is Elliott Payne was the overall winner of this prestigious Drum'n'Bass DJ-ing competiton which is held in association
with Technics DJ-ing equipment.
Elliott says: "I'm so chuffed I won. I know it's hard breaking into the DJ scene I've been trying for 11 years but now I've got some recognition in London and I am being interviewed for the DJ Mag Magazine's next issue."
It was from an advert in this very same magazine that Elliott decided to send his DJ Madcap demo tape.
Elliott says:"I received a telephone call last Wednesday telling me I was in the top five. The harder part came next. I had to prove my worthiness."
This meant performing his drum & bass set in front an educated audience of clubbers in Central London's, The End nightclub.
Elliott says: "I had half-an-hour to get the audience moving and impress the judges with my technical ability on the decks in the lounge of the club."
Elliott/DJ Madcap did just that and won the top prize of a Technic 1210- decks and a Technic Mixer. Winning this competition means a hot spot at any night Movement promotions wish to put him on. Which will mean a lot more exposure for our local DJ-ing talent. So check out his website www.djmadcap.com to see where he'll be next.
In the meantime Elliott will be musically supporting his father, Les Payne, at the Town Hall, High Wycombe, this Saturday.
The night is a showcase for Les's latest album, A Month Of Sun Days and Elliott scratches on the decks with his father's song, Look Out World. Les will be supported by a range of talented singers and bands all performing together to help raise money for the National Society for Epilepsy.
Tickets cost £8 available from 01494 512000.
