The footballer who suffered a broken leg which caused the fixture he was playing in to be abandoned has thanked everyone at the club on what was the ‘darkest’ moment in his career.

Jake Peck, who is currently on the books at Chesham United, suffered an horrendous injury just 19 minutes into the Generals’ home match against Merthyr Town on September 24 at the Meadow.

The medical teams assisted the ex-Luton man in which the referee took the players from both sets of teams back into the changing room whilst he was being treated.

However, due to the severity of the injury, the match was officially abandoned just after 4pm, nearly 50 minutes after the initial incident.

Peck would have to wait three hours to be seen by an ambulance, after one of the roads leading to the stadium was closed due to an accident in Great Missenden.

Speaking on Twitter, Peck said: “Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone involved Chesham United, from the supporters, chairman, management, volunteers, staff members, physio and also my teammates for helping me during one of my darkest times on a football pitch.

“Considering I’ve only been at the club for a few months, I felt I was part of a family on Saturday and I can’t thank everyone enough for how they dealt with me and looked after me when they could see I wasn’t in a great place.

“Also want to say another massive thank you to Merthyr Town and their physio for helping out with me whilst I was on the pitch and apologies for making you guys travel three hours for 20 minutes of football & a long journey home.

“I appreciate all the kind messages of support & will be doing all I can to get myself fit again to continue doing what I love.

“One last thing, Chesham, you boys better go get promotion for me and Roddy now we’ve put our body on the line for you.”

A source close to the club told the Bucks Free Press that the injury was so ‘horrific’ and that Peck’s ankle was ‘facing the other way – a complete 180° turn.’

Those who attended the match have been given a voucher for when the rearranged game will take place.

Refunds will also be given to supporters who cannot attend the fixture’s new date.
