Shoppers have been left disappointed following the news of the latest closure in the Eden Centre.

The High Wycombe branch of Decathlon will close its doors for the final time on Saturday (October 1) after being open for five years in the centre.

The French sports goods retailer sells its own brands alongside other recognizable names such as Nike, Adidas, Garmin, and FitBit.

However, shoppers will now have to travel to Uxbridge or Reading for the nearest Decathlon store.

Many took to Facebook to share their disappointment.

Tyler Rhys Stephens wrote: "Such a shame, much better than sports direct."

Paul Snook said: "It is such a shame. Great sports shop. Friendly staff."

Adam Standen added: "That’s sad. Their bikes are better than Halfords. Oh well, back to the MK or Oxford."

Abbie Russell wrote: "So sad it's going. They were great for bike servicing."

Neil Seymour said: "That’s a real shame!!!"

Danielle Barrett wrote: "I thought it was empty of bits the last time I went. Sad times. It was a really useful and reasonable shop!"

Rasna Garden added: "I can’t understand why it’s going. We are always in there buying all sorts especially for the kids or camping."

Whilst Sarah Lawrence simply wrote "Noooooooooo" as Ben Harrison said "Wtf!".

Others have already started to discuss who will take over the 14,000sq ft store which has two floors.

Melanie Smith wrote: "Wonder if Primark will go in there?"

Ben Ward replied: "Or Wilko? It’s got to move from the Chilterns at some point."

David Alan Taylor added: "Chiltern leases are up January 2024 so that’s a long time to remain empty.

"Not big enough for either Primark or Wilko really.

"Shame that furniture place moved into old BHS site when it did.

"Boots could have slid to the Decathlon site and opened up a huge anchor space for Wilko."

Decathlon announced the news of its closure with a notice at the front of the store.

The notice said: "Our High Wycombe team has loved serving the local community.

"We want to let you know that employment will be preserved, with our teammates being offered alternative roles and relocation opportunities.

"Although we are closed, you can find tips and advice on our Decathlon Play platform.

"Thank you for all of your support."
