A NEW Montessori nursery has opened for children after a successful launch.
The Bois Moor Montessori nursery’s parents, children and staff marked the opening on October 5 with canapes, speeches and playing together, and a special visit from the mayor of Chesham.
Montessori teaching approach focuses on the independence of each child, allowing children to learn at their own pace and developing their natural interests rather than formal methods.
Bois Moor’s headteacher Kellie Louise Antonazzo said: “The Montessori approach encourages independence, allows children to learn at their own pace, and have the freedom to explore in a safe and structured environment.
“We want to teach kindness, positivity, and aspirational attitudes.
"Most importantly, we want the children to be the best version of themselves.
“Our motto her at Bois Moor Montessori is I AM – independent, able, me."
Currently the nursery has four members of staff and capacity for 56 children from as young as three months up to pre-school age, and it is open five days a week.
The nursery’s spread across three classrooms and a calming sleep room, while children enjoy homecooked meals for lunch and supper, and breakfast for early birds.
A weekly nature walk as part of their timetables is “one of their favourite parts of the week,” a mother of two young girls Ms Antonazzo said.
Five areas of discovery include Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Maths and Culture, which includes areas such as Botany, Science, Animals, and Music.
She added: “Children will make exciting discoveries whilst beginning to understand respect and mindfulness, as well as taking turns, sharing, and appreciating how to accept others.
“Some of the main benefits of a Montessori environment are independence, social and emotional understanding, and the child gaining a love for learning which is carried with them throughout their life.
"I grew up in Buckinghamshire, going to Heatherton House, and then on to Berkhamsted Collegiate School, so, it’s really lovely to be back in the area again, helping children begin their educational journey in the same place I did."
Her own young girls also attend Bois Moor nursery.
