After confirming his return to High Wycombe with the premier of his documentary, Wanderers legend Adebayo Akinfenwa was back at Adams Park as he watched his old side defeat Peterborough United 3-1.

Admitting he was ‘late’ to the match, he arrived at the Hillbottom Road venue just in time for Garath McCleary’s equaliser against the Posh right on the stroke of half-time.

His visit back to his old stomping ground was met with hugs, cheers, selfies and autographs, as the 40-year-old is enjoying his retirement from the beautiful game to focus on new challenges such as working in the media and wrestling.

Speaking on his old teammate’s win against the Posh, Akinfenwa told the Free Press: “I told the boys that I was coming down and I said don’t make me come down and lose.

“So as I walked in Akinfenwa style, as I was late, G-Mac scored and there was only going to be one winner in the second half.

“It was a great game and there is always a mad vibe being here.”

His return at Adams Park coincides with the anticipation of his Amazon Prime documentary, ‘Beast Mode On’, which will be screened for the first time at the Wycombe Swan on October 26.

The special one-off production will look at Akinfenwa’s life as a footballer, father, family man, and internet celebrity, whilst also talking about sensitive issues such as racism, his career setbacks, and injuries.

Wycombe Wanderers will also play a huge role in the film, as it was the club Akinfenwa spent the longest at during his career.

In his six years as a Chairboys, he became the club's all-time Football League goalscorer which helped Gareth Ainsworth’s men achieve two promotions in 2018 and 2020.

The trailer for his documentary was shown for the first time during the half-time interval between Wycombe and Peterborough and Akinfenwa said: “It was the first time I had seen the trailer and it was good.

“I’m excited about it but I haven’t seen the final version yet, so I'm weighing up with my brothers on whether I watch it with everybody else at the Swan, or take it in beforehand.

“I’ll decide but I am excited because we’ve been on this journey.

On why he chose Wycombe as the premier location, he explained: “This is a second home for me so it made sense to have the premier at the Wycombe Swan.

“I loved my time at Wycombe, I really did.

“It’s a part of my life.”

And on those who haven’t purchased tickets, Akinfenwa, in his unique way, said: “What you waiting for?! You better hurry up! I was here for six years running the channels and that!
