The care quality watchdog has given out a new rating to a care company in Buckinghamshire.

Curantis 365, a care home agency looking after people in their own homes, was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

During the first inspection of the service on August 25, the CQC focused on personal care provided by the Wendover- based company, meaning personal hygiene and eating support for two people living with dementia was inspected.

Following the inspection, Curantis 365 was rated ‘good’ across all five inspection categories – safety, effectiveness, whether the service is caring, responsiveness and quality of leadership.

CQC’s four ratings are outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate.

People were protected from abuse and harm, and staff knew how to report any concerns about safety, and they delivered safe care in line with people’s support plans, the inspector found.

People were supported to have “maximum choice and control of their lives” and care was given “in the least restrictive way possible,” CQC said.

A relative told CQC: “Staff offer choices and let them [people] choose."

Another relative spoke about dignity and respect: “Yes they [people] are treated with dignity and respect. The staff offer them choices."

A staff member told the inspectors: "Privacy and dignity of the people I look after are promoted by getting to know them, being devoted, and working with person centred values and always asking for their permission before touching them especially during personal care."

Staffing levels were found to be “sufficient” to keep people safe and meet their needs.

CQC said: “The service aimed to ensure only suitable staff were selected to work with vulnerable people, and checks were carried out to allow safe recruitment decisions to be made.

“A relative felt they were treated with kindness and said their privacy and dignity were always respected.”

Staff members and a relative also felt the management were “approachable and supportive”, and supervision spot check meetings for staff were held regularly, CQC reported.

The provider’s registered manager Asmara Munir commented the inspection: “We are delighted with our CQC rating of Good.

“Our rating is a team effort we couldn’t have achieved this without our excellent carers, clients and their families.

“Our rating is the confidence boost we need to expand our business further. I was anxious before the meeting as it was our first inspection, the inspector was very professional and helpful, it was a great learning experience.”
