A charity for elderly people is calling for people to make space for the new season by having a clear out this autumn.

Age UK shop in Amersham calls Buckinghamshire residents to clear out and donate unwanted good quality items to the charity’s store on Sycamore Road as part of the 2022 Challenge.

To continue supporting older people with its Advice Line and Telephone Friendship Service with funds from 250 Age UK shops in the UK, the national charity hopes to receive 2.2 million bags of donations by the end of the year.

Amersham Age UK shop manager Alison Crane said: “We’ve certainly experienced an unprecedented summer this year, but with the seasons finally changing it’s now time to get preparing our Autumn and Winter looks.

“That’s why we are calling on everybody in Amersham to sort through last season’s wears and donate any unwanted, quality items to your local Age UK shop as part of our 2022 Challenge.

 “Not only is this a great time to have a sort out and part with any items that you don’t use anymore, but you’ll also be helping Age UK as we will turn every bag of donated items into bags more support for older people.

"So do have a big clear out and drop in your donation bags today!”

Currently around 1.4 million older people living in England are often lonely, research by Age UK found.

Unless the problem is tackled, the figure is set to increase to 2 million people by 2025, the charity warned. 

By signing up to Gift Aid, people can to make their donations worth an extra 25 percent for the charity.
