The customised Buckinghamshire edition of the world-famous MONOPOLY board game was revealed today by Mr MONOPOLY.

Several High Wycombe landmarks, locations and organisations scooped up top spots on Wycombe’s own MONOPOLY.

The most exclusive ‘Mayfair’ blue property square was given to Hughenden Manor, while the Guildhall was revealed as Wycombe’s ‘Park Lane’– the second most expensive square players can compete to buy.

Led by Mr Monopoly, fans and Wycombe organisations and charities featured on the game board celebrated the big reveal at Wycombe Arts Centre today as the game launched at shops and retailers ahead of Christmas.

The excitement for the Wycombe edition was captured by 23-year-old Wycombe resident and board game enthusiast Emily Jane Rutland, the winner of the MONOPOLY poetry competition in less than 25 words.

Her winning piece, which received huge applauds from the audience, read: “High Wycombe is my home town, let’s jump up and down. Monopoly is on its way, so let’s roll the dice – and play!”

Attending with her mother and grandmother, she was awarded one of the very first games to come off the press.

She said: “I love Monopoly because it is a great game for all the family regardless of age to join in with and have a good laugh together.

“What’s not to love!”

Cressex Embroidery’s co-owner Anthony Thomas, who came along with his sister and dad, said: “It’s brilliant, we’ve played it since we were children.

He felt honoured to be nominated on the board and like they carry the mantle for Wycombe as a manufacturing location, once known as ‘The Chair Making Capital of the World’.

When he plays MONOPOLY, Mr Thomas “gets competitive,” he admitted.

“My parents are from the Caribbean, and we play a lot of card games.

“It gets quite intense sometime!”
