Fireworks were reportedly launched at police officers and also thrown out of car windows in Chesham as families headed towards the town's organised display.

Police were patrolling the town on Friday night (November 4) when officers were called to reports of fireworks being fired outside the Nisa Local and Chess Medical Centre on Essex Road.

The group fled when they saw the officers with the force saying that fireworks continued to be thrown throughout the night and "directed at officers".

A police spokesperson said: "This group clearly didn’t think about their idiotic behaviour and the impact. Chesham was full of families (lots with young children) walking to the organised display."

Elsewhere in the town, a separate report claimed fireworks were being thrown out of a silver car.

At the time of the report coming through, the car was heading towards officers who stopped the vehicle in the middle of Berkhamsted Road.

Officers found "many fireworks" in the car with all passengers being under the age of 18.

A police spokesperson said: "Again this separate group clearly do not see the consequences of their actions, the potential risk to themselves and risk to innocent members of public."

Thames Valley Police said that many stop searches were conducted on the night.

The spokesperson added: "On a positive note, the Chesham team would like to say a massive well done to Chesham United Football club for another successful display.

"As always, the display is very well organised with many families enjoying the fireworks.

"A thank you to all the stewards keeping Chesham residents safe."
