Lidl has opened the doors of its new supermarket in Marlow today.

The town mayor, Cllr Richard Scott, officially opened the store on Liston Road this morning as shoppers queued to get inside.

The store's opening times are between 8am and 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Waitrose left the site in October 2019, with the building almost taken over by a nursery that had its proposals accepted in February 2020.

However, after the nursery’s plans fell through, Lidl acquired the building and began construction work in July 2021 as they today welcome customers for the first time.

Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Jason Buckley, said: “It is fantastic that we are able to open our doors and welcome everyone into our new store in Marlow.

“We would like to thank all those who have played a part in delivering this new store.

“We now look forward to serving our multi-award winning products to everyone within the local community.”

The German food retailer has increased sales area following an extension at the back of the building creating a new entrance on Liston Road.

They have also built on-site bicycle parking as well as resurfaced the Liston Road car park owned by Buckinghamshire Council.

The new store also features the supermarket’s famous in-store bakery

It is expected to create to have created around 40 new jobs for the local community and following the discounter’s recent wage increase, new starters will be paid the highest rate of any UK supermarket.
