Former Wycombe Wanderers youth team player Matthew Cash will start in Poland’s opening World Cup match against Mexico.

The fixture, which will kick off at 4pm in the UK on November 22, will see the ex-Chairboy start as a right-wing back, donning the number two shirt.

Cash spent two years in the Wanderers youth setup but was released at the conclusion of the 2011/12 season, aged 14.

This was due to the club’s decision to disband its youth system following significant financial issues, leaving them to be the only Football League team at the time not to have an academy.

After leaving the Adams Park team, Cash became part of the FAB Academy for the 2013/14 season, before joining Nottingham Forest.

He spent six years at the City Ground where he played 141 times and scored 13 goals, before signing for Aston Villa in the Premier League in 2020 for £14m.

His time at Villa Park so far has seen the 25-year-old feature in 82 matches, and at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, he was named the club's Player of the Year.
