Santa Claus and his sleigh made an appearance at Wycombe Christmas Market supporting people in need.

Wycombe families and crowds looking to get into the Christmas spirit flocked to Kingsmead Business Park today to browse crafts, enjoy a free mince pie and mulled wine, and say hello to Santa at the outdoor market organised by Red Kite Community Housing.

Santa’s journey was made possible by Wycombe Food Hub’s Trevor Snaith, who took Santa and a reporter from Bucks Free Press to the market in Santa’s sleigh.

Trevor said: “Wycombe Santa has been around since 2013, and every year it’s gotten bigger and bigger.

“Now we go around all the supermarkets and streets, collecting for local charities like the Sea Cadets or Wycombe Food Hub.”

The Juniper Singers entertained the crowds with beautiful seasonal songs and Disney hits, while people brought toy donations to the toy appeal.

Red Kite’s Joanna Reilly and the team had been setting up since 7am.

She said: “We’ve had quite a few gifts come through now, but we’ve also got support from other companies as well donating teddy bears, One Can Trust collecting food for Christmas, and Wycombe Food Hub with Santa's Sleigh.

“We’re really conscious that not everyone can celebrate Christmas this year, so we wanted to make sure we’ve got the support in place to support those more vulnerable.

“We’ve got Helping Hand inside the café, they’re there to support those who are struggling with their heating bills."

“It’s important we recognise not everybody is as fortunate this year.”
