A MARLOW man is contemplating leaving the town after groups of teenagers continue to climb on his roof.

Michael Bourton has lived above Superdrug on Marlow High Street for almost five years and said he continuously spots teenagers on his roof.

He claims that groups of usually four or five local teenagers regularly climb on the roofs on the High Street as well as the town hall.

He said: “I hear it, it’s very intimidating and intrusive of my personal space.

“The dog barks as he is woken up by it and we go out and often they are fairly abusive back.

“There are numerous places for them to descend and it is impossible to catch them.”

His tenancy on the his flat is soon coming to an end and says the issue has made him want to leave the town.

He continued: “I don’t know what to do because it’s got me to the point I don’t want to live here.

“I don’t particularly want to move out. I like living in the centre of Marlow and don’t want to compromise that but I will have to leave Marlow and go somewhere else.

“The police can’t do anything, there is no way of catching them.

“If I make a big fuss of them they will come back and they have done it in the past.

“They will vandalise parts of the roof, I have plant pots smashed and my bike stolen.

“I fear if I kick up too much of fuss to their face, they will treat it as an opportunity to come back and make my life hell.”

Michael also saw one of the roof climbers slip and believes there is a “sense of inevitability” of a serious accident.

He added: “One slipped on the slat roofs but he caught himself in time before he then jumped off onto another roof.

“There is a sense of inevitability about this that eventually someone will do something silly and then they will fall unless there is some communication with the schools.

“They are clearly local lads, often about four.

“I could almost cope with a burglar and it would be easier to manage rather than kids that think they can run up and down the roof.”

Thames Valley Police spokesperson confirmed they received reports of anti-social behaviour in relation to the behaviour last week.

Michael revealed that his landlord had to do major repair work two years ago due to groups climbing onto his roof.

Around this time, the issue was brought up a Marlow Chamber of Commerce meeting at Danesfield House, with leader of the town council Jocelyn Towns urging people to “keep looking up” if they are walking on the High Street.

She then added: “This is incredibly dangerous and the children who are doing this could cause themselves untold damage.”

It was alleged that the school children climb up the fire exits at the back of several unspecified buildings to go onto the rooftops when it starts to get dark.
