BARCLAYS will shut one of its Buckinghamshire high street bank branches within months.

The shock announcement comes after closure of bank branches by other major banks in the county and Amersham, including the HSBC Sycamore Road site in August.

Now the Barclays branch on 4 Sycamore Road will shut, with a closure date set for March 1 2023 at 12pm.

A Barclays spokesperson explained that majority of customers were using online banking.

The said: "This is reflected at Amersham branch, and as we adapt, we are finding new ways to support our customers by maintaining our community presence with options for customers who still require in-person support.”

“In Amersham we plan to open a Barclays Local – a pop-up cashless banking site where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for banking support, as they would in a branch and without the need to travel.

"We are currently working with the local community to identify a suitable location and will announce details once confirmed.”

When analysing how Amersham customers use services, the bank found that 92 percent of people, who use the branch also banked using the app, online, or by phone in 2021.

Barclays said 22 customers use the Amersham branch regularly as their only way to do banking.

The nearest Barclays branches will be in Chalfont St Peter, Aylesbury and Hemel Hempstead.

Next the bank, which made £8.4 billion in profit in 2021, is looking to collect and publish feedback from customers to understand the impact the branch closure has.
