An 80-year-old woman was left concerned for the safety in her building after a leak caused condensation.

A resident in a block of flats on Cordon’s Close in Chalfont St Peter was going “mad” after “bad service” from housing association Paradigm Housing.

Heating in the communal areas of the block has been broken for two years, she said.

To make matters worse, a flood in her neighbour’s flat on Saturday December 10, caused by flooding in an apartment above, has made the unheated communal areas “soaking wet,” she said.

The pensioner said: “I’m terrified that the floors and walls are soaking wet, the bannister is soaking wet. The moisture is coming into the hallway!

“I’m worried about slipping because I’ve had hip surgery.”

She was concerned about getting out safely for errands and her birthday tea.

The heating in the hallway had been broken since early January 2021, she said and added: “Now when we really need the heaters we don’t have them.

“The stairs and walls are wet, but if there was heating it would dry.”

She has been hitting her “head on the wall” for two years to try get Paradigm Housing to fix the communal area heating, and now she was worried about mould building up on the walls.

“The service is bad, I’m on the phone to them every day.

“We live in an area where rich people live, but it’s as bad as it is in London.

“I’m going mad.”

A spokesperson from Paradigm Housing said: “The safety of our customers is our top priority.

“On 10 December, we were informed of the flood in the property, and we sent out a plumber and electrician who made the property safe.

“On 19 December, we received a further call that the communal area was slippery and there was water on the wall to which we sent out a plumber on the same day who confirmed this was condensation. We are sourcing dehumidifiers for the communal area and will be sending them out as soon as possible.”
