Wycombe Wanderers’ assistant manager Richard Dobson has confirmed that striker Tjay De Barr will be taken to hospital after collapsing at the end of the Chairboys’ 1-0 defeat at Plymouth Argyle.

The 22-year-old, who was only playing his fifth competitive game of the season, fell to the ground after the referee had called the fixture at Home Park to an end on December 29.

The striker had only been on the pitch for 24 minutes but took a heavy blow to the chest just five minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute in a 50/50 challenge.

He moved gingerly for the remainder of the fixture and was seen on his haunches for several seconds whilst Wanderers were on the attack.

The Gibraltarian is not expected to be in the matchday squad for when Wycombe take on Peterborough United on New Year's Day at London Road.

Dobson told the press: “Tjay is in good hands and will be taken to hospital to have further tests.

“He is up and talking but what happened at the end there [against Plymouth], is something that we don’t want to see as it caused great concern for everyone involved.

“His wellbeing is the most important thing and we are still waiting to see what will happen with him this evening [December 29] and tomorrow [December 30].

“But I just want to say that the paramedics from both teams dealt with everything so professionally.

“They were very quick to aid Tjay and that just highlights how important these people are when these situations do happen.

“There was great concern for Tjay as he is a fighter, so when he fell in the manner that he did, you knew something wasn’t right.

“But he is in good hands now and he will have the necessary tests that he needs.”

Dobson took charge of the media duties whilst Gareth Ainsworth remained with the stricken striker.
