Home Essentials is set to close down after recently replacing the former Argos spot at the Wycombe Retail Park.

The site had been vacant for almost two years before the essentials store opened in last November.

The store sells "low budget items to help during the cost of living crisis” with a range of everyday items on sale.

However, the landlords of Wycombe Retail Park have decided not to renew the store’s temporary lease which expires on Friday, January 13.

“Closing down” signs on the windows of the building with the owners contemplating shutting the store early after trading this weekend.

The owners told the Bucks Free Press they were “not 100 per cent” but could close early next week before the lease expires.

As the Home Essentials closes the site will become empty once again after the Argos branch closed towards the backend of 2020 with Sainsbury's saying around 420 of Argo's standalone stores were no longer needed.

Last year, we asked readers what store they would like to see open in the spot at the retail park we were given responses of Farm Foods, The Range and Home Bargains.

There were also more rogue suggestions like IKEA and Ann Summers.

At the time, Farm Foods said they are "no current plans to open a shop in this area".

An IKEA spokesperson said: “We’re in a fast changing retail environment and we want to make sure we continue to be affordable and convenient.

"Our ambitious growth plans mean we are focusing on all parts of creating a great customer experience, whenever and wherever people need us.

"This includes investing in our online offer and customer services, rebuilding and adapting existing IKEA stores, and evaluating different locations as part of a new city centre approach.

"As such, we are reviewing our growth strategy on an ongoing basis.

"We are not considering the Wycombe retail park as a potential location for IKEA at this current time.”

The Range, TkMaxx, Ann Summers, Home Bargains were all contacted as well but none responded back.
