In the last decade, the demand for ‘classic/retro’ shirts has seen a huge increase amongst football fans across the country.

Numerous spectators have taken to social media to share their ever-growing collection of jerseys, with some dating back 40 years.

However, whilst there are several online independent shops that specifically sell kits from yesteryear, none of them particularly focus on just the Football League clubs…apart from one, and incredibly, they are based in Buckinghamshire.

The Football League Store, which was established in January 2022, sells shirts that focus on each of the 72 EFL teams from Accrington Stanley down to Wycombe Wanderers, with the company's headquarters being in Chalfont St Peter.

Bradley Strevens, who founded the business 12 months ago, exclusively told the Free Press: “I love football and it is one of my biggest passions, and one of my many aspirations was to be involved in it in some capacity.

“I also have a love for football shirts and the idea came about at the back end of 2021.

“Even though I support Fulham, I remember getting a Wycombe home shirt as a child and I loved it.

“Years later, my mum gave it to a charity shop so I tried to find an adult one online and it was pretty much impossible.

“It wasn’t on eBay, there was no independent company selling this shirt anywhere, so I thought I’d try one of the bigger brands, and again, I had no luck.

“This is when I noticed there was a gap in the market for selling old kits that primarily focused on the EFL clubs.

“So I decided that as nobody else was doing it, I would do it myself and this is how the business came about.

“Our USP is that we focus on all the clubs in the Championship, League One, and League Two, and we have a wide variety of items which is dependent on what we get in.

“A year later and we’re going strong.”

Still in its infancy, the business offers shirts from the most recent season to kits going back 30 years.

It is one of the many new retro football kit businesses to be launched in recent years, but with its target audience solely being supporters of clubs in the EFL, Bradley hopes a new wave of customers will arrive before the current campaign comes to an end.

He continued: “I really do love it.

“I love reading and studying about all the shirts I get, as I also write articles on each team’s history focusing on the kits we get in.

“And seeing the fans share their memories with a specific kit is always great to read when we post pictures of those shirts on social media.

“It gives me such a thrill learning about the ones I get it.”
