MP ROB Butler was “extremely disappointed” Aylesbury did not secure any levelling up funding.

Mr Butler said he has met with Levelling Up minister Dehenna Davison on other ways to deliver better infrastructure, such as improved roads and rail links, following its unsuccessful bid.

The government announced the winners of round two of its £4.8bn Levelling Up Fund, which gives local authorities money to spend on projects that would improve their local economies and infrastructure.

Over 110 councils were awarded a share of £2.1bn, including neighbouring Slough and Reading. Bucks, on the other hand, missed out.

Bucks Council did not wish to comment. When asked what the projects it put forward and what the cost was, again, the council refused to explain.

Taking to social media, Rob Butler wrote: “I was extremely disappointed that Aylesbury didn’t succeed in its applications for levelling-up funding last week, despite two excellent bids prepared by Buckinghamshire Council.

“In a meeting at the UK House of Commons. I underlined to Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities minister Dehenna Davison that while Aylesbury is already a great place to live and work, we also have areas of deprivation and need government help to regenerate our town.

“I have also spoken to other government ministers about the ways they can help Aylesbury, especially by delivering infrastructure like better roads and rail links, as the town continues to develop and grow.”
