A luxury hotel in Marlow is opening for its first wedding showcase of the year, set to include tours of the venue and local supplier recommendations.

The Compleat Angler Hotel in Marlow is showcasing its wedding services in an event on February 19, the weekend after Valentine’s Day.

The venue is located on the banks of the river Thames and Marlow Weir and has hosted guests including F. Scott Fitzgerald and T. S. Eliot in its 400-year history.

Taking its name from Izaak Walton’s famous 1653 book about fishing in Marlow, the Compleat Angler was voted Best of Britain 2020 at the Bridebook Awards.

The hotel, which is owned by Macdonald Hotels & Resorts group, is offering tours of the site’s facilities, including function rooms with riverbank views and boat trips on the Thames.

Weddings Marketing Manager for Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, Emma Benson, said specialist wedding coordinators would be on hand to support couples, from catering and entertainment suggestions to organising personal touches.

She added: “With years of experience, our wedding coordinators have delivered on many traditional or more unique requests for couples, but it all begins with finding the venue to tie the knot.

“Our open days are the ideal opportunity to ask those burning questions to the experts and truly visualise the set-up from day to night as the perfect backdrop of your wedding.”

Function rooms can be licensed for civil ceremonies and are designed to seat up to 120 day and 200 evening guests.

The hotel’s ‘Compleat Package’ option includes use of 64 bedrooms, five wedding suites, a main bar, front lawn, and restaurant area. Bespoke and engagement packages are also available.

The Compleat Angler was originally a small guesthouse called the Riverside Inn which had only six rooms and was owned by Wetherds Brewery before being purchased by Robert Kilby, who added a restaurant to the site in 1888.

It was a popular retreat for artists and writers throughout the twentieth century and hosted Queen Elizabeth II on her first visit to a public restaurant outside London in 1999.

An open evening will also be taking place on March 22 and The Compleat Angler’s specialist wedding team will attend the County Wedding Fair on April 2.

Advance booking for the hotel’s upcoming open day is recommended. Readers can visit www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/compleat-angler for more information.
