A NEW beer and wine bar has opened in Buckinghamshire.

The Taps Gerrards Cross opened it’s door on Friday February 24 to excited customers.

It’s co-owner Charlie Quirke explained how love of good drinks and community inspired him and his business partner Pete Bridges to take the leap of faith.

Charlie said: “It’s unchartered territory for me and my partner, but we did it because the area itself needs it.

“Especially Gerrards Cross and even Beaconsfield, all High Streets since Covid have been closing and dying.

"We want young people, older people, couples, friends that are coming in before and after the cinema. It's open to everyone."

This includes dogs too, former dog-owner Charlie said.

"If I get 10 percent of a dog in the bar, that will do it for me," he laughed.

The pair first set their eyes on the former nail salon space at 14 Station Road a year ago.

After refurbishment works, the ground-floor bar area now hosts seating, art by local artists, and folding door that can be fully opened in the summer. The downstairs basement bar will host live music, and it is available for hire.

Charlie, an actor who grew up in the area said: “It was nice to come back and do something for the community.

“It’s local beers and wines. The community needed a new local.”

Next the business pair is planning to open a branch in Beaconsfield “hopefully by summer” with outdoor seating, Charlie revealed.

“I can’t say where exactly yet!

“We’re just having a look around, and we’ve got a few places we’re looking at.

“The Gerrards Cross one will be like our baby at first."

The regularly changing taps currently have two lagers, a mixture of IPAs and sours, pale ales, a stout and a couple of ciders. The drinks menu also includes hand-selected wines and spirits.

Getting the bar ready for the big opening day was a team effort by Charlie and Pete with help from Charlie’s dad Steve Sheen and Carl Quarterman, the owner of The Keg in Bourne End.

Charlie said: “It started with me and Pete on the golf course a couple of years ago.

“I have to give credit to Pete. I was a away on acting tour for two months, so Pete did a lot of it on his own with his wife Mei.

“It’s a group of local friends creating something for the community.

“We want it to be a place where people can come and have a conversation.

“There are so many restaurants in Gerrards Cross, so we don’t want to take away from the restaurants.”
