Campaigners in Marlow have hit back at plans announced last week for a new roundabout to be built off the A4155 road.

The company Dido Property Limited submitted the proposed changes to Buckinghamshire Council's planning portal on March 8.

The roundabout, alongside a bus route and eco-friendly cycle lanes, were proposed amendments to the application for Marlow Film Studios - originally submitted in May 2022.

However, volunteer group Save Marlow's Greenbelt has spoken out against the proposed changes.

The community group was formed with a mission to protect the Green Belt land in Marlow, which forms part of the planned development site for the Film Studios.

Chairman of Save Marlow's Greenbelt, Richard Sherwin, said the group were not opposed to the film studio development specifically, but believe that other areas in the UK would be more suitable sites for the project.

Mr Sherwin was critical of the new transport plans, which include the proposed development of a roundabout near the A4155 Marlow Road entrance.

Bucks Free Press:

He said: "The Westhorpe Interchange above the A404 had planned improvements at the beginning of the year which have now been cancelled.

"That roundabout is already flawed and can't cope with the traffic turning into Globe Park. A new roundabout will increase the traffic and add to confusion."

Little Marlow resident, Martin Braint, also expressed concern with the new transport plans.

He said: "The congestion caused by extra commuters isn't going to be mitigated by a roundabout. The A404 and Marlow Road simply don't have the capacity."

However, Marlow Film Studios CEO, Robert Laycock, was optimistic about the future of the Film Studios development.

He said: "We are committed to ensuring the studios becomes an integral part of the cultural and educational facilities in the community with a culture and skills academy, studio hub and other facilities.

"All of this will be provided in a setting that features enhanced habitats, recreational access and improved public transport."

The Marlow Film Studios estimate that the new development will create up to 4,180 new jobs and contribute £380 million to the local economy.

The studios' planning application will be determined by Buckinghamshire Council at a later date this year.
